Our VPN client allows you to configure specific settings which might be needed in the event of a censored network or proxy server. This article will show you how to configure these settings.
Connect via a censored network (stealth mode)
Some countries censor their inhabitants' internet connection and, as enforcement, have banned or restricted VPN usage. Turning on stealth mode will legally bypass this.
Applicable countries
It's important to note that stealth mode needs to be activated for the computer and device (CloudVPN router / CloudVPN Agent) that are in the censored network. Some easy examples:
- If your computer is in a censored network and you want to establish a VPN connection to a device, it doesn't matter where that device is, then you need to turn on stealth mode in the VPN client of your computer. This is explained below
- If the device (CloudVPN router / CloudVPN Agent) is in a censored network, then you need to turn on stealth mode for that device.
- If both your computer and the device are in a censored network, then you need to turn on stealth mode for your computer and the device.
Configuration
Performance and outgoing port
This option may decrease performance, so it should only be checked when applicable. Stealth mode uses outgoing port 9255 (TCP) on your computer, as mentioned in: How does the VPN client connect to the CloudVPN Portal? (ports & protocols).Mobile VPN
The following steps show you how to activate stealth mode for your VPN client.
- Open a new tab in your browser.
- Enter https://localhost:9250 in your webbrowser and press [Enter].
- Enable stealth mode. You can leave the default settings unchanged, but if the default port (9255) is already used on your computer you can freely change it.
Enabled
Everytime you now set up a VPN connection, the VPN client will use stealth mode. If you already had a VPN connection active, you will need to disconnect first.Connect via a proxy server
If you are connected to a proxy server for your internet connection, you'll have to configure your VPN client to connect via that proxy server as well. The local IT department will know if this is the case and can provide you with the necessary information.
The following steps show you how to configure the proxy settings for your VPN client.
- Open a new tab in your browser.
- Enter https://localhost:9250 in your webbrowser and press [Enter].
- Enter the proxy server's host address and port number, and enter your credentials for the proxy server, if applicable.
Enabled
Everytime you now set up a VPN connection, the VPN client will use these proxy server settings. If you already had a VPN connection active, you will need to disconnect first.
