Problem
The VPN Client doesn't work on macOS Ventura update 13.4.1(c). When trying to set up a VPN connection you will receive error "OpenVPN: exiting due to fatal error. (744)"
Unsure about your macOS version? Click the Apple menu in the upper-left corner and choose "About this Mac". Alternatively, you can open a terminal and enter the command: sw_vers .
Cause
The VPN Client checks the version of your OS to determine if it has to use a TUN or TAP network interface. The notation (syntax) of the version changed in macOS version 13.4.1(c). As a result, the VPN Client is unable to determine the OS version and thus will default to TAP instead of TUN, which doesn't work on macOS.
Solution
We are actively working on a solution. In the meantime, the workaround is to update to the latest macOS version. At the time of writing, this version is 13.5.
